Since 1936, the New Year in El Paso has been rung in by the Sun Carnival Parade and Sun Bowl football game. While the main focus is on the parade and Sunbowl football game, the Sun Carnival encompasses a host of civic and sporting events that includes pageants and balls, and tennis and basketball tournaments. This promotional film, presented by the Southwest Sun Carnival Association, highlights the 1939 festival, including footage of the pageant and parade that had a "El Paso Goes Western" theme, as well as the University of Utah vs. University of New Mexico football game.
