This news segment for Houston’s KPRC-TV captures opening day of the AstroWorld amusement park on June 1, 1968. Featured attractions include the 610 Limited and the Hard Luck Mine. An estimated 50,000 guests visited the park opening weekend. AstroWorld was built as part of the Astrodomain, a development complex owned by former Houston Mayor Roy Hofheinz. Six Flags bought the park in 1975, operating it until its closure in 2005.
