This footage features an assortment of edited reports for 24 Action News broadcasts on Austin’s KVUE-TV in 1978. Every segment features Roy Faires, acting either as the reporter for the story or the host for the news program. Faires worked as a special project director and entertainment critic/reporter at KVUE-TV, Austin’s ABC affiliate, from 1976-1989. Both local and national reports are included. Three stories are of particular significance. One relates to the Cold War, with Faires detailing President Jimmy Carter’s decision to postpone the production of nuclear bombs. The other two refer to high-profile murder cases that happened that year, including the Hillside Strangler murders in Los Angeles and the murders of three Girl Scouts in Oklahoma.
