Apollo Applications Program

Apollo Applications Program

Established in 1965, the Apollo Applications Program was dedicated to finding ways to repurpose technologies developed for Apollo to manned missions with primary objectives related to scientific experimentation and exploration. NASA and contractors saw the program as a way to forestall the inevitable scaling back that would occur once the Apollo lunar missions were completed. Some of the equipment for Apollo Applications was undergoing construction during the time period of the reports in this collection, including the Orbital Workshop, Telescope Mount, and multiple docking adapter. The Apollo Applications Program eventually led to Skylab, which absorbed much of what had been developed under Apollo Applications.
