Inmates open the show with self-deprecating banners
Inmates take their tuns riding the bulls
In Huntsville, Texas, a crowd gathers at Huntsville State Prison for one of the unique and comical sporting events in the world - it's the
annual Prison Rodeo, a great attraction here for 35 years.
The inmates start the show by proving they haven't lost their sense of humor.
The proceeds are used for an educational and recreational fund.
And the action is fast and furious.
Riding one of these things can be much worse than two weeks in solitary.
Another Robin Hood heads for his inevitable fall.
To the shouts of "ride 'm cowboy!" another inmate partner gets tossed, but not over the wall.
In bull vs. rider, the bull invariably wins.
But they keep trying - and losing.
Some riders don't wait until the last stop.
The convicts consider a brief trip on one of these beasts a privilege. To each his own.
Sometimes real clever cowboys can put the whole thing in reverse to see where they've been before they get there.
And for a big finish, they call this The Mad Scramble.
Ten bulls and ten riders who just want to get away from it all.
An exciting day for the prisoners, but wait till next year - pardons permitting.
