This October, TAMI presents events in Austin and Dallas featuring films from the archive, home movies and resources for educators:

The Sprocket Society: Monster Mayhem at the Alamo Ritz - October 14th at 1:45 PM

TAMI joins the Alamo Ritz for the second installment of their daytime screening series, The Sprocket Society.  This month’s Halloween-themed screening, Monster Mayhem, will include TAMI contributor Ramon Galindo’s A Day of Horror.   This 1964 amateur monster movie was shot near San Marcos by Galindo and stars Chris Crow and Galindo’s daughter as well as several other children from the Travis Heights neighborhood.  Ramon Galindo and Chris Crow will be in attendance.  A portion of each ticket will go to benefit the Texas Archive for the Moving Image.

Home Movie Day in Austin and Dallas – October 20th

Home Movie Day is an international event celebrating amateur film-making and home movie preservation.  In both Dallas and Austin, the public are  invited to screen their home movies and to enjoy those of others at this open-screen showcase. Volunteers will be present on site to help individuals prepare and project their contributions.  Anyone with a love of film is invited to participate in this free event.

Austin – 2 PM at the Austin History Center, presented by Experimental Response Cinema, TAMI, and the Austin History Center

Dallas – 4 PM at the Texas Theatre, sponsored by the Dallas Municipal Archives and the Texas Theatre

Texas Council for the Social Studies conference in Irving  – October 26th through the 28th

TAMI will host a booth and session at this year’s Texas Council for the Social Studies annual conference in Irving.  On Saturday, October 27th at noon, TAMI’s Outreach and Education Director Elizabeth Hansen will showcase new primary source video resources from the collection and provide tips for educator’s on the use of archival films in the classroom.
