Dispatch: March 2013

Here you’ll find a rundown of TAMI’s activities in March, including our most popular films, mentions in the press, and information about events.

  • March 3rd marked the last day of the Texas Film Round-Up at the Longview and Marshall public libraries. Over the two week collection period, more than 1,100 films and videos were contributed to the program.   We are excited for the high level of participation, and we can’t wait to see what new films will be discovered!
  • TAMI was also present at several other events in Austin and Fort Worth.  TAMI founder and Executive Director Dr. Caroline Frick presented a session on “Reel Texas Characters” during the Explore UT open house on the University of Texas at Austin campus.  She also discussed film preservation during a special screening of The Big Sleep by the UT Radio-Television-Film Department.  Outreach and Education Director Elizabeth Hansen presented “New Discoveries from the Texas Film Round-Up” at the Texas State Historical Association’s Annual Meeting in Fort Worth and moderated a panel on "Using Archival and Found Footage in Film” at the SXSW Film Festival.
  • TAMI participated in the first-ever Amplify Austin, a two-day fundraiser for nonprofits based in Austin.   We were pleased with the support shown by TAMI’s followers and were excited to discover some new fans.  Thanks to everyone for their support!
