Directed by Leo Aguirre, El Fuego Detrás tells the dramatic story of Stan, a suicidal writer who finds another choice when a violent death put the fate of a young immigrant, Luz, in his hands. Shot on location in El Paso, the film won Honorable Mention at the 2015 Texas Archive of the Moving Image Hecho En Tejas competition for the Cine Las Americas International Film Festival.
Cine Las Americas promotes cross-cultural understanding and growth by educating, entertaining, and challenging diverse audiences through film and media arts. Cine Las Americas’ headline event, the Cine Las Americas International Film Festival, is a one-week long, annual event that traditionally takes place during the month of April, showcasing new films from Latin America (North, Central, South America, and the Caribbean) and the Iberian Peninsula. Films made by or about Latinos in the U.S. or the rest of the world, and films by or about indigenous groups of the Americas are also invited to participate.

Founded in 1998, Cine Las Americas is the only Latino and indigenous film festival in Austin, Texas. Every year, Cine Las Americas invites filmmakers, producers and distributors to bring their work to Austin and participate in this important international event. All the films screened at the festival are subtitled in English. A close connection between the public and festival guests makes the Cine Las Americas International Film Festival a unique environment in which to nurture cultural exchange, promote artistic excellence, and have lots of fun enjoying the best Latino and indigenous films.

The festival program offers a wide variety of entertainment, cultural, and educational choices for diverse audiences, such as the latest narrative films made by breakthrough directors, established studio releases, challenging documentaries, short films, entertaining animation series, and the always surprising youth films, honoring the culture and identity of the fastest growing population segment in the state of Texas and the United States, while focusing on building a nationally and internationally recognized film program that highlights artistic excellence in filmmaking, as well as diverse and typically underrepresented cultural perspectives.
