This news footage captures scenes of President Gerald Ford speaking at a campaign event for Bill Fisher as he ran for the U.S. House of Representatives in 1978 for Texas’ 17th Congressional District. Held at the Dora Roberts Community Center in Big Spring, President Ford and Bill Fisher speak to West Texas voters GOP principles and big government. Although President Ford and future presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush all campaigned on Fisher’s behalf, Democrat Charles Stenholm won the race by a landslide and held the seat until 2005.
