About the video

Founded by Austinite William Lamme in 1878, the Red Front Candy Factory, was located in the 800 block of Congress Avenue. Seven years later, the family owned business opened under the new name of Lammes Candies and has continued operations throughout the central Texas area ever since. After initially producing ice cream and gem (a frozen fruit dessert made from whole milk, similar to sherbet), Lammes expanded into chocolate making in the mid 1960s. This clip features several outtakes of David Lamme, Jr. as he practices his lines for advertisements for the “Texan, Jr.” chocolate assortment and the “Texas Pecan Pralines” package.
