Marion Price Daniel, Sr. was born in 1910 in Dayton, Liberty County. Elected to the office of governor in 1956, he supported legislature that ranged from highway development to prison reform to the establishment of the Texas State Library and Archives Buildings. Daniel was reelected for two additional terms and saw a state sales tax approved by the legislature over his objections in 1961.
