About the video

A mixture of narrated television coverage and silent footage, this film documents West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer's trip to Texas during his 1961 state visit to the United States. With Vice President Johnson as his guide, the 85-year-old Adenauer fulfilled a lifelong dream to visit the American West. His trip included a stay at the LBJ Ranch, mass at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, and a stop at the Fredericksburg racetrack where he took in performances demonstrating Fredericksburg's German heritage and delivered a speech addressing the friendship between the United States and Germany.
